breakfast: raspberry bullets
Due to insulation being installed this morning (YAY!) I am unable to get into the kitchen to make myself breakfast.  Therefore, I am having an award winning breakfast of "raspberry bullets" which are raspberry flavored licorice covered in chocolate.  A healthy breakfast that no mother could refuse when kitchen access is unavailable.  ;)
But anyway.. insulation.  My fingers are freezing.  I'm wearing a wool sweater and a down vest (which Greg and I just purchased yesterday at 50% off original price), wool hat, scarf and fingerless gloves (so I can type), and SKI PANTS.  This is my usual house attire this winter.  Although I doubt  my attire will change much (Greg insists that I should be wearing a bikini in the house by the end of the day, ha) I hope my fingers will be warmer.  At least when we turn on the heater now it won't just funnel the heat through the roof and the floors.  oh, the luxuries of modern homes.

How long did it take you to get used to thinking "August = Winter" versus "August = 105" ?

yeah, this takes a while.... and it still happens. I was referring to the cold season the other day and said "around xmas" then stopped myself and corrected. so confusing.

Hah. Gotta love those NZ homes. Must be a lot worse down where y'all are. It's been pretty bad here, our ol' heatpump is getting a good workout.

Y'all doing the govt grant thing for the new insulation?

hell yes government grant! woo hoo! We had to wait 10 weeks in the end, but it was worth it to save $1000. It's pretty damn cold here, but I have to say... we had a coldER snap here the day the insulation was installed. Thank god we had it... It was like -2 outside at night and with insulation it was 7.5C inside. Without it it would have been muuuuuch colder. Hell, I complain when it's 12C inside. Folks in America: do you KNOW what it's like to peel yourself from a warm bed and walk 70ft down freezing cold tile to go to the toilet in 7C/45F weather?!?!

Nice.

Our place is apparently quite comfy by NZ standards. But any time I can see my breath due to cold inside my house, that's just not right.

Besides insulation we've decided to try and get a 2nd heat pump installed before next winter. Would make a heckuva difference.
